I feel like drowning at the bottom of the deepest sea. There is nowhere for me to go. Home is just as bad as school.
— from A Map of the Known World
Sometimes you meet someone and before you know their name, before you know where they’re from, you know that sometime in the future this person is going to mean something to you.
The most important things are the hardest things to say. They are the things you get ashamed of because words diminish your feelings — words shrink things that seem timeless when they are in your head to no more than living size when they are brought out.
"Whats the point in liking someone who doesn’t like you back?" Well, they’re right. There isn’t a point; but you can’t help who you like— it’s not up to you. Your heart kinda just decides for you and there’s no turning back once your heart makes up its mind.
We think about it, sing about it, dream about it, lose sleep worrying about it. When we don’t have it, we search for it; when we discover it, we don’t know what to do with it; when we have it, we fear losing it. It is the constant source of pleasure and pain. We can’t predict where it will be from one moment to the next. It is a short word, easy to spell, difficult to define, impossible to live without.
Sometimes there are things in our life that aren’t meant to stay. Sometimes change may not be what we want. Sometimes change is what we really need. And sometimes saying goodbye is the hardest thing you think you’ll ever have to do, but sometimes it’s saying ‘hello again’ that breaks you down and makes you the most vulnerable person you’ll ever know. Sometimes change is too much to bear, but most of the time change is the only thing saving your life.
As time goes by, life has a way of rearranging itself. People enter your life, and inevitably, they leave as well. Things have a tendency to happen that can turn your world upside down. You’ll come to realize eventually, that even though things are different, you are as well.
